Selogriyo Temple

Selogrio is a small Hindu temple, built earlier before Borobudur temple. It is located at the head of a small valley, with many terraced rice-fields on the slopes.  This is the Java scenery one sees in magazines. We should be aware of the following:  Selogriyo is about 30 km. away from Borobudur, and journey by car or motorcycle takes about one hour (each way), over paved, winding country lanes (similar to rural "D" roads in England). Upon arrival at a nearby village, We walk about one or two km. along a steep bricked pathway, and over broken ground.  The temple is then reached after climbing about 200 steps.  However, the setting and atmosphere are sublime. 

Walk through the rice paddy

It is called Ubud (balinesse rice teracced area)in Java. With local activities and all local agriculture make your tour much forgettable.

Evening chanting

 For who wish to practice Buddhist chanting in a completely authentic setting, we arrange chanting sessions at the Mendut monastery. Local Buddhist monks will be present for the chanting.  You can join with them  for chanting and feel the peacefulness atmosphere for your spiritual experience.

Mendut Temple

Mendut Temple is behind Dewata tree, Mendut was built earlier than Borobudur temple and Dewata tree is almost 300 years old.

Pawon temple

Pawon temple is located just right between Borobudur and Mendut temple, although pawon is the smallest temple in the area but very important during local Buddhist ceremony on waicak day.

According to the local researcher, it is said Borobudur used to be surrounded by ancient lake and Buddhist inhabitant during the time should have used a canoe or bamboo raft to reach the temple, We suppose the water came through 2 rivers Progo and Elo river, meantime Borobudur's position is higher than the villages below, they have typical  name with wate things, as such Bumisegoro(endless water)Sabrangrowo(crossing the marshes)and Tanjungan(a floating hill)

What should to be seen on your first day in our town?

after at 04.30 am, Wake-up call then We take you to a vantage point, Overlooking both the town of Borobudur and the temple itself,  The panorama of java landscape arising out, the dawn mist is unforgettable, fortunately the sun just rose up between two mountain(merbabu and merapi)Merapi is the most active volcano in the world, should be more active at least once in 4 years time and then We would let you to enjoy the morning silent, no conversation between us, so quiet, peacefulness and every breath we take is lent by the trees and moving leaves, fresh air will be neutralizing our lung from the contaminated day and in the south side laying up the longest mountain range(Menoreh) in Java, local people call it sleeping Buddha mountain. The hill below are terraced-rice field make it more colorful and before 05.00 am some birds are singing to greet the new day that is just presented for us.
